76.5% out of Sina Weibo’s 600 million registered accounts access the service through mobile phones, Jack Xu, CTO of Sina, disclosed today. (via Sina Tech)
There has been over 600 million check-ins on Sina Weibo, with 10% from outside China. Of the 10% most happened in the US and UK. Check-ins that happened within China are mostly from first-tier cities such as Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. 60% checked into restaurants and 20% checked into attractions.
By leveraging mobility and the huge database, now Sina can push travel guide and info. to a user when he or she just lands in a tourist destination, according to Mr. Xu. Sina also found, by analyzing users’ profile and posts, Aries like travel the least, so they’d push, movies, TV programs, or other content ads to them. In doing so, he concluded, the ads can be unobtrusive and even valuable to users.
