Wei Meng (Sara Wei), a principal at the venture capital firm DCM, died at 32 on Monday after attending a self-improvement class called Legacy. Wei led her firm’s investments in the popular short video app Kuaishou and dating app Tantan. According to a Wednesday statement released by Legacy, Wei fainted during a class on Aug. 14. Wei was transported to a hospital and died there two days later. It is unclear what caused Wei’s death. Several Chinese news reports said that Wei had a “mental breakdown” after being berated by classmates as part of the course. Legacy’s statement included a screenshot of a statement released by Wei’s family on WeChat, which called reports of a breakdown “seriously inaccurate.” [National Business Daily, in Chinese]
