ByteDance has raised its target for VR device shipments in 2022 by 80% to 1.8 million, after the company’s marketing performance helped it exceed expectations, according to tech-based WeChat Official Account, ARQuan. ByteDance acquired VR company Pico from Shenzhen acoustics company GoerTek last August. While GoerTek still manufactures Pico’s VR devices, ByteDance has taken charge of branding and development, with the popularity of Pico’s VR devices on Douyin surpassing those of Meta’s Quest 2 in February, according to ARQuan. In 2021, Pico recorded 150,000 VR device shipments, with Quest 2 reaching 10 million shipments. [ARQuan, in Chinese]
