By 2025, the market for on-demand retail platforms in China is expected to exceed the trillion yuan threshold (about $148 billion), according to a white paper released on Wednesday by JD’s on-demand retail platform Dada Group and the China Chain Store and Franchise Association. The report defines on-demand retail as a model where consumers’ online orders are fulfilled within an hour by brick-and-mortar retailers located within a 3 to 5 kilometer (1.9 to 3 mile) radius. The report said it sees on-demand retail as a key driver for future growth in the overall online-to-offline retail market, which reached RMB 3.3 trillion in 2021. [Dada group, in Chinese]
