World-leading chip foundry TSMC held a groundbreaking ceremony on August 7 for its new factory in Kaohsiung’s Nanzih Technology Industrial Park. Once built, the facility will focus mainly on producing chips for 7nm and 28nm processes, with mass production expected to start in 2024. TSMC revealed its plans for further chipmaking plants in June, saying it would build five more factories in Taiwan and overseas regions in addition to the seven announced last year. [UDN, in Chinese]
