Genshin Impact publisher HoYoverse will replace a vocalist with AI to generate a character’s voice in its otome title Tears of Themis. HoYoverse told TechNode that the vocalist from a partner firm is currently unable to work, so they decided to use a self-developed tech named Anti-Entropy AI to learn and generate the voice for the character Vyn in the following in-game event on Tuesday. Chinese media Game Insight reported that the vocalist is involved in economic disputes. This is the first time the company has adopted this tech in Tears of Themis and they have no plans so far to continue doing so after the event, according to HoYoverse. They previously used the tech in a virtual human project called Lumi who now has over 1.5 million subscribers on Bilibili. [TechNode reporting]

Correction: an earlier version of this article misidentified Vyn as Marius.
