Xiaomi is planning to use laser sensors from Chinese lidar maker Hesai in its first self-branded electric vehicle, scheduled for release in 2024, local media outlet LatePost reported on Friday. The high-end version of the vehicle will include laser-based technology to enable highly autonomous driving features on city roads. The report also cited sources familiar with the matter as saying that the new model will have a possible price tag of more than RMB 300,000 ($43,300). Rivals Xpeng Motors and Li Auto incorporate lidar into their latest models, the G9 and L9 crossovers respectively, while since March Nio has been delivering its first sedan to customers with lidar sourcing from Silicon Valley and Suzhou-based Innovusion.
