BYD will build a new car production facility in Rayong, Thailand, investing $491 million in collaboration with WHA Group, one of the country’s largest real estate developers, Reuters reported on Tuesday. The development means that BYD will become the third Chinese automaker to invest in building its own manufacturing plant in Thailand following MG Motor, a British carmaker acquired by China’s SAIC, as well as Great Wall Motor. BYD on Aug. 9 announced a partnership with Thailand’s car retailer RÊVER to sell passenger electric vehicles in the country. [Reuters]
