Tesla is making plans to close some of its downtown showrooms in big shopping centers in major Chinese cities as part of a strategic overhaul aimed at building brand loyalty with improved customer services, Reuters reported Thursday, citing two insider sources. The US automaker is said to be considering a move to devote more resources to shops in suburban locations in cities such as Beijing and Shanghai, where maintenance and repair services are also available. Tesla currently operates more than 200 showrooms across China, more than half of which do not provide repairs because of limited space, according to Reuters’ calculations. [Reuters]
