Chinese short-video platform Kuaishou is reportedly set to launch an online shopping mall channel with a similar look and feel to e-commerce giants such as Taobao and JD to monetize its traffic flow further. Kuaishou conducted a gray box test of the channel in August, featuring discounts and special offers, accessible via a button on the home page of the Kuaishou app to some users. The Douyin rival’s move comes ahead of China’s largest online shopping festival Singles’ Day, on Nov. 11. Local media outlet Jiemian reports that Kuaishou is now recruiting merchants, adding that the company will help promote the e-commerce hub through short videos and livestreaming rooms.
