ByteDance reportedly plans to offer more paid time off for China employees after the Beijing-based technology company was widely criticized over its work culture. The South China Morning Post reports that employees will receive an additional 10 days of leave to take care of sick family members, the maximum duration for paid sick leave will be increased from eight to 12 days, and bereavement leave will be increased by two days. The new leave policy will come into effect some time in October or November according to the report. This is the latest in a series of changes to employee benefits at TikTok’s parent company after it came under fire alongside other major Chinese tech firms for its overwork policies, including the infamous “996” practice of making employees work 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. shifts six days a week.
