ByteDance-owned TikTok is planning to launch livestream shopping in the US market by teaming up with Los Angeles-based TalkShopLive. The US partner will provide underlying technology and support for livestream hosts who want to sell their products on the app, according to Financial Times, citing two people familiar with the operations. The report added that the two companies haven’t signed any contracts yet. Founded in 2018, TalkShopLive describes itself as a social buying and selling platform, and it provides technical support for Walmart and Microsoft’s MSN Shopping. TikTok tried the live shopping program TikTok Shop in the UK last year, the first market outside Asia, but the program failed to reach sales targets in the country, with influencers and brands dropping out of the program.
