Chinese e-commerce giant JD is reportedly launching a new group-buy service named Dongdongtuan, which seems to rival Tencent’s Exiangtuan and Pinduoduo’s Kuaituantuan. The new service is available via WeChat’s mini-program, allowing small merchants to manage their orders and clients. The company said that the service is still under internal testing and that only stores that already have an online platform on JD can currently qualify as suppliers. A timeline for a full roll-out of the service has not been made public. The launch is viewed as a renewed attempt by JD to compete with Pinduoduo and Meituan, following the failure of its previous community group-buy platform Jingxi. Jingxi Business Group was merged into JD Retail in June. [IThome, in Chinese]
