On Monday, Major Chinese e-commerce platforms Alibaba, JD, and Douyin announced their Singles Day first sales numbers. Alibaba’s Tmall reported that 102 brands surpassed RMB 100 million in total sales in the first hour, of which more than half are domestic Chinese brands. The company did not specify which brands are included. JD said home appliances sales reached RMB 1 billion in one minute, including brands like Apple, Midea, Xiaomi, Haier, and Lenovo. The total gross merchandise value of home appliances purchased in the first 10 minutes increased by more than 40% in a year. Sales from the JD special edition app are also up 96% compared to the previous year, and Douyin’s official data shows that as of midnight on Oct. 27, the top five products pre-sold on the platform were from Apple, Proya, Redmi, Tineco, and Estee Lauder.
