Major Chinese video platform Bilibili has reportedly informed employees via an internal email that its gaming business unit will now report directly to CEO Chen Rui. The former head of gaming Zhang Feng is being moved to a different area of the business, according to Chinese media outlet Youxiputao. The email stated that the change is intended to strengthen Bilibili’s gaming business and implement a strategy of “developing high-quality game titles and publishing globally.” Bilibili’s gaming business includes seven sectors, three of which are studios. Earlier this year, the company started a sweeping business restructuring operation, building a firmer connection between its livestreaming and video creation businesses. According to Bilibili’s financial results, the firm’s revenue from mobile games was $156.2 million in the second quarter of 2022, a yearly decline of 15%, with gaming accounting for 21% of the firm’s total revenue in this period. Bilibili claimed that the drop was due to “the lack of new exclusively distributed game releases in the first half of 2022.” [Youxiputao, in Chinese]
