Major phone processor maker MediaTek introduced Dimensity 9200, a high-end processor with a ray tracing feature, on Tuesday. Built with TSMC’s second generation of 4nm technology, the processor is equipped with new core designs from ARM, which are 12% and 10% better than the Dimensity 9000 in single-core and multi-core CPU performance. The GPU also has a 32% improvement in performance over the Dimensity 9000 with 41% less power consumption. According to major Chinese processor reviewer Geekerwan, a test phone equipped with Dimensity 9200 surpasses the Apple A16 chip in GPU performance on several indices. The Dimensity 9200 also introduces features to power gaming, including ray tracing and variable rate shading (VRS). Tencent’s survival shooting game Arena Breakout has been working to support ray tracing and demonstrated its effects at the MediaTek release event. MediaTek also claimed that the Dimensity 9200 supports Wi-Fi 7, the latest Wi-Fi tech. At the event, major Chinese phone vendors Vivo and Oppo revealed their plan to ship phones with the processor.
