BYD has recently ordered at least six specialized cargo vessels for vehicle transport worth a total of RMB 5 billion ($710 million) and with capacity to carry 7,700 cars each, as the major Chinese manufacturer sees robust export growth for its electric vehicles. State-owned automaker SAIC has also launched a tender for the procurement of seven new cargo ships that can each carry 8,900 vehicles, according to a Monday report by Bloomberg.
