Alibaba-owned e-commerce platform Taobao is undergoing final testing on a metaverse live broadcast service, which is expected to go live during a major marketing event ahead of the Spring Festival (Lunar New Year) holiday, local media outlet 36Kr reported on Monday. After using the Taobao app to enter a virtual city square-like environment created by Taobao as an avatar, users are able to watch livestream content on a big screen and purchase goods, the report said. Users are then able to make purchases from the livestream, resulting in the delivery of physical packages in the real world, in a similar fashion to the app’s popular livestreaming e-commerce services.
