Cainiao, the logistics arm of Alibaba, has partnered with German courier service DHL as the Chinese company aims to expand its presence in Europe. The two companies are set to merge their existing networks of parcel lockers in Poland, followed by a plan to invest $65 million in building parcel lockers across the country to “improve the quality and speed of out-of-home delivery,” both parties said Monday. As part of the agreement, DHL will also acquire a portion of the equity securities in Cainiao’s Polish subsidiary. Poland’s e-commerce market is one of the fastest-growing in Europe and is expected to double in size by 2027. [DHL release]
