Nio has hired two new senior battery experts in its latest move to develop electric vehicle batteries in-house, 36Kr reported on Friday. Zack Izaki, a former general manager at Panasonic North America, left the Japanese battery maker recently. He has joined Nio in a key role reporting to senior vice president Zeng Shuxiang. Shawn Hao has also joined the EV maker in a similar role, having previously been a director at Volkswagen-backed battery startup QuantumScape. Hao’s past experience also includes being responsible for Apple’s manufacturing of battery cells for its electronics products, the report said. Nio is currently building a battery factory in the eastern Chinese province of Anhui to ensure supply of the key car component, Reuters reported on Feb. 24. [36Kr, in Chinese]
