On Thursday, Chinese search giant Baidu revealed an AI chatbot ERNIE Bot (Wenxin Yiyan in Chinese), showing its multimodal ability to generate text, images, audio, and videos in a series of pre-recorded demo videos. Baidu CEO Robin Li said ERNIE Bot is the result of years of effort Baidu had put into artificial intelligence, not a competitive reaction to OpenAI’s ChatGPT. Baidu’s ERNIE has all-around skills, Li demonstrated. It can answer complicated questions, write poems, as well as generating images and videos based on prompts. However, Li said that the multimodel generative function won’t be available to all users due to the high cost. Baidu has yet to open the platform to the public and the testing version is invite only.
