An employee at EV maker Nio has publicly complained about the company requiring nearly 500 extra working hours over the past six months to meet growing workload demands. The complaint gained public attention on Chinese microblogging service Weibo on Saturday. The product operations officer, surnamed Chen, told local news platform Feidian Video that she had experienced various health issues due to the heavy workload. In exchange for her silence on the matter, the company offered her a severance package of RMB 120,000 ($17,408). Shanghai-based Nio urged high productivity and efficiency in an internal letter sent to staff on Jan. 1, amid growing competition in the Chinese electric vehicle market. Nio has not yet commented on the incident. [Feidian Video, in Chinese]
