Changan said on Sunday that the S7, its second model under the Deepal electric vehicle brand, will cost from RMB 189,900 and RMB 149,900 ($26,278 and $20,743) for the all-electric and extended-range versions, respectively. Changan becomes the latest Chinese automaker to bet on demand for extended-range technology, by which a car runs on an electric motor but can be charged by a gas engine when the battery dips below a certain level, following the success of Li Auto’s similar offerings. The S7 EREV has a driving range of 121 km (75 miles) in all-electric mode and 1,120 km on a full tank plus full charge, compared with the respective driving ranges of 210 km and 1,315 km for Li Auto’s crossovers. Li Auto delivered 106,542 units from January to May, up 125% on the same period last year. [TechNode reporting, Changan announcement, in Chinese]
