ByteDance has reportedly delayed the production plan for its Doubao AI glasses project, and the first-generation product is now unlikely to reach the market, according to supply chain sources cited by Blue Whale Tech.
One person familiar with the matter said the company is still likely to pursue AI glasses in the future, partly because Qualcomm’s AR1 chip has already been procured. The person said the next phase may not begin until the market reaches a clearer inflection point and products can show stronger differentiation and broader consumer appeal.
The report added that ByteDance applies strict internal standards to AI hardware, especially on product differentiation. The current plan was reportedly pushed back because the product was not seen as sufficiently distinct from existing offerings on the market. [Blue Whale Finance, in Chinese]
