China’s daily average token usage exceeded 140 trillion in March, up more than 40% from the end of 2025, a senior statistics official said on Thursday, underscoring rapid progress in the commercialisation and large-scale deployment of AI. Mao Shengyong, deputy head of the National Bureau of Statistics, told a State Council Information Office briefing that China has made phased breakthroughs in scaling AI applications across industries.

The expansion of AI is boosting growth in related sectors. In the first quarter, value-added output of digital product manufacturing above designated size rose 11.2% from a year earlier, Mao said. Output in industries directly tied to AI production and use grew sharply, with electronic special materials manufacturing up 32.5% and integrated circuit manufacturing rising 49.4%, he added.
