Alipay announced that Alipay Wallet, the mobile app developed and ran by Alibaba’s financial arm, was nearing 100 million users after the Nov.11 Shopping Day and would become an independent brand.

One third of Alipay’s daily payments are through mobile, according to the lead of Alipay Fan Zhiming, an 800% increase year-over-year.

Today Alipay announced it has had 460, 000 businesses, from Alibaba’s e-commerce marketplaces, online services, to telcos, to support QR code payments through the mobile app, a service that was launched on Nov. 7. A webpage would show a QR code after a user chooses to pay through the app. The payments will be completed after the user scan the QR code with the app in his/her phone.

Alipay has been working on enabling as many offline businesses to support Alipay mobile payment solution as possible. Earlier this year the company announced they’d try to have half of the vending machines in subway stations in China to be capable of accepting Alipay on-site payments.
