Chukong Inc., the Chinese mobile gaming company, has launched 3D extension for Cocos2d-x game engine, its open-source cross-platform application development framework for iOS, Android and other mobile platforms.
Cocos is the iOS/Android gaming engine brand under Chukong that is built on top of the OpenGL ES. Cocos 2D-x, a previous offering by the company, has been widely adopted by game developers in and outside China; namely, CJ, Disney Mobile, Zynga, Gumi, Glu, Gree, DeNA, TinyCo, Gamevil, HandyGames, Renren Games, Sohu Changyou, etc. Cocos has covered 201 countries and regions, and 400,000 developers, the company disclosed citing data from Google.
Many of Chukong’s own mobile games are developed with Cocos 2D-x too. Founded in 2010, Chukong now is one of the largest mobile game developers. Apart from in-house developed mobile games, licensed games and Cocos, the company also runs a mobile game advertising platform PunchBox. Last month the company raised $50 million in series D funding.
