What happened: OPPO vice president and head of the overseas business, Sky Li, will serve as the new CEO of Realme, an online exclusive brand of OPPO. Realme now operates independently from Oppo and is building a team in both India and China to focus on software and product development.
Why it’s important: Li previously served as OPPO India’s country head. The OPPO sub-brand focuses on capturing the Indian market share via online channels. And so far, it has been quite successful in doing so: the brand’s first smartphone Realme 1 was launched in May and has sold 400,000 units in just 40 days in India. The young company is thought be following the footsteps of OnePlus, a successful spinoff company of OPPO.
