China Mobile, the world’s largest telephone company by subscribers, said Thursday its profit for the first half of this year rose 6% year on year on robust growth in 5G users. Profit for the state-owned telecommunications company was RMB 59.1 billion ($9.1 billion) in the first six months of the year, up from RMB 55.8 billion in the same period last year. The company’s revenue for the first half grew 13.8% year on year to RMB 443.6 billion. China Mobile said it added 3.6 million new users in the first half, bouncing back from the last year when it lost 8 million subscribers as China allowed users to switch carriers with their old phone numbers.
