The northern Chinese city of Tianjin has asked state-backed companies to migrate their data from private cloud operators like Huawei, Alibaba, and Tencent to a state-backed cloud system by September, 2022. The city asked all companies to stop signing new contracts with third-party cloud platforms in a document dated Aug. 12. The government-run cloud is operated by a subsidiary of the Tianjin State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission, a state-owned asset manager. [Reuters]
