Nio announced an over-the-air system update on Wednesday night, adding an emergency driver-assistance feature to Nio Pilot, the automaker’s driver-assistance system. The new feature adds more monitoring capability to ensure drivers stay in control, Nio said in a WeChat statement. The updates apply to all models that run on its in-car operating system Aspen, formerly called Nio OS. The Chinese EV maker has been in the center of a robust public discussion on driver-assistance function after a Nio ES8 driver died in a car crash while driving in the driver-assistance mode in mid-August.
