Alphabet’s autonomous vehicle unit Waymo has formed a partnership with Chinese automaker Geely to develop and test autonomous vehicles for its commercial ride-hailing service in the US, according to an announcement released Wednesday. Zeekr, the premium electric vehicle brand launched by Geely in March, will design and develop a shuttle-like vehicle at its research and development facility in Sweden. Waymo will then equip the vehicles with its self-driving system to expand its current fleet of around 600 robocars. [Geely statement]
