TikTok, the popular short video app owned by Chinese tech unicorn ByteDance, has rolled out e-commerce site Dmonstudio in an apparent attempt to rival Chinese fast fashion portal Shein, Chinese media outlet Egain News reported today, citing people with knowledge of the matter. The project is being overseen by Kang Zeyu, head of ByteDance’s e-commerce business, according to the report. A check of Dmonstudio’s site shows that it sells clothing and accessories with delivery covering more than 100 countries worldwide. Dmonstudio’s official site gives no direct evidence of its links with ByteDance. Also thought to have been inspired by the rise of Shein, Alibaba rolled out international fashion app AllyLikes to target overseas consumer markets in October. [Egain News, in Chinese]
