Chinese video streaming site Bilibili said in a Tuesday statement that it will hire 1,000 more content moderators this year in order to lessen the workload for a task which demands “around-the-clock” operations. Bilibili’s statement follows a wave of online ire targeted at the company after the sudden death of a moderator employee who was working a Lunar New Year holiday shift. In addition, the video site pledged to pay more attention to employee conditions while offering physical and mental health checks to the content moderation team. [Bilibili press release, in Chinese]
