Tencent is testing Exiangtuan, a WeChat mini program that helps small merchants to manage their clients within the app, local media reported on Feb. 18. Merchants can set up their online storefronts via the WeChat mini program and share products with individual WeChat friends and WeChat groups, track orders, and offer after-sales support. The service, which is still undergoing internal testing, is currently invite-only. The move triggered market speculations about Tencent’s possible foray into the group-buy market. Fierce market consolidations in the area have removed a host of smaller players in an area that is now dominated by top companies backed by Alibaba, Pinduoduo, and Meituan. [Tech Planet, in Chinese]
