Chinese apps like Douyin, Baidu, Taobao, and WeChat now offer an option that allows users to turn off their recommendation algorithms, after new rules for algorithms from the Cyberspace Administration of China took effect on March 1. These new regulations note that all algorithm providers must offer options for users to turn off customized services like targeted advertisements. In order to encourage users to use their algorithms, some apps, like WeChat, Dianping, and Meituan, list the personal information they collect, and also detail where the collected information will be shared.
