Deppon, a Chinese courier company backed by e-commerce heavyweight, has had autonomous vehicle startup hauling cargo for it on several routes in Shenzhen as part of a newly publicized partnership between the two companies. DeepRoute is hauling freight between a Deppon warehouse and three terminals across the city’s Futian and Longhua districts from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. each day, with the company claiming that 100% of shipments have been delivered on time, according to a Friday announcement. The vehicles being used have safety drivers behind the wheel, in line with local traffic regulations. DeepRoute secured $300 million in a funding round led by Alibaba last September and is also backed by venture capitalists such as GSR Ventures. [Deeproute statement, in Chinese]
