Xiao Yaqing, head of China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), is under investigation by the country’s corruption watchdog the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, according to a government statement on Thursday. Xiao had previously pushed a series of major projects, including the “East-to-West Computing Capacity Diversion Project,” which encouraged building data centers in China’s western regions. Xiao became the lead minister for MIIT in July 2020, having previously worked as head of the State Administration for Market Regulation in 2019. [Caixin, in Chinese]
