Parts shortages from suppliers due to Covid-related restrictions hampered production in September for Aito, a Chinese electric vehicle brand backed by Huawei, according to Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business group. In a video released on Thursday via Aito’s official account on Weibo, Yu said the EV maker was supposed to deliver more than 16,000 vehicles last month rather than the slightly more than 10,000 units it actually managed. The automaker achieved a major milestone with the delivery of 10,045 vehicles in August, followed by 10,142 units a month later, after launching its first production model the M5 last December, but Yu stated that its production target was hit by Covid-related disruption.
