Xpeng Motors plans to test its highly autonomous vehicles for public transport in the southern Chinese city of Guangzhou as early as 2023, Wu Xinzhou, the company’s vice-president of autonomous driving, said on Monday at a press event. The electric vehicle maker expects the move to help improve the safety performance of the Xpilot, its advanced driver assistance systems, for its consumer cars, according to Wu. The company is on track to release its City Navigation Guided Pilot feature via over-the-air software updates to drives in Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou in the first half of 2023, which will allow cars to navigate around complex urban environments automatically.
