TikTok’s Chinese version Douyin recently launched an app store feature allowing users to download a range of mainstream apps without leaving the short video platform, local media outlet Tech Planet reported on Tuesday. A limited number of apps can now be downloaded via Douyin, including Alibaba’s Taobao and Taobao Deal, Ant Group’s Alipay, shopping app JD, and life services platform Meituan. With more than 600 million daily active users on Douyin, app and game publishers believe that a huge amount of traffic from the ByteDance-owned app could increase downloads as well as attract new users to their products, the report said. Statistics published by Beijing-based software publisher AppInChina showed that the official app stores of three cellphone manufacturers – Huawei, Oppo and Vivo – are currently the largest app stores in China, occupying 44.31%, 19.69%, and 17.22% of the market share, respectively.
