Making Friends, a company co-founded by Chinese tech celebrity Luo Yonghao, is using Douyin to launch training courses on how to make money via TikTok’s overseas e-commerce services, in the entrepreneur’s latest venture, Chinese tech media outlet 36Kr reported on Tuesday. The training courses mainly focus on market analysis, industry consulting, and agency operations according to the report, with a course on how to establish a successful live e-commerce platform on TikTok being a banner offering. The “Making Friends E-commerce Academy” already has more than 500,000 followers on Douyin, with modules priced from RMB 299 ($41.8) to RMB 36,700. Luo first found fame via online language courses he taught for New Oriental in the early ’00s, before going on to found tech company Smartisan in 2012, and more recently becoming a significant e-commerce livestream host on Douyin, TikTok’s sister platform.
