Top chip contractor TSMC will introduce 4nm tech to the upcoming plant in the US state of Arizona due to pressure from clients like Apple, people familiar with the matter told Bloomberg. The new 4nm tech is an upgrade from the firm’s initial target of 5nm announced in 2020. The plant is expected to be operational in 2024 with a production capacity of 20,000 wafers per month, according to TSMC. The chip maker also plans to build a second plant in Arizona to produce 3nm chips, sources told the media outlet. A representative for TSMC declined to comment to Bloomberg. The new plan is expected to be announced at a ceremony to celebrate the “first tool-in” next Tuesday with President Joe Biden and Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo. [Bloomberg]
