GAC Toyota Motor is the latest car brand to cut prices on its electric cars in the face of increasing competition from Tesla and Chinese electric car makers. The company, a joint venture between the Japanese automaker and China’s GAC Group, on Feb. 9 cut the price of the base version of its bZ4X SUV, the first model in its new all-electric “Beyond Zero” (bZ) series, by RMB 30,000 ($4,403). Officials said some 2,391 units of the five-seat crossover, with a starting price of RMB 199,800, were sold from November to January. Local automakers such as Xpeng and Aito have followed suit after Tesla cut prices for its China-made vehicles by a maximum of RMB 48,000 early last month. [Jiemian, in Chinese]
