BYD on Thursday unveiled a cheaper Han sedan with a smaller battery pack in a bid to maintain its growth momentum as the industry engages in a price war. The base Han sedan has over 506 kilometers (314 miles) of total driving range and starts at RMB 209,800 ($30,529), around RMB 20,000 cheaper than Tesla’s entry-level version Model 3 and competitive with Toyota’s Camry family sedan. The Chinese automaker also began selling a lower-cost version of the Tang plug-in hybrid crossover for between RMB 209,800 and RMB 233,800. Dozens of automakers have looked to cut prices on their vehicles or launch affordable versions of existing models to attract customers and protect market share since late 2022.
