Chinese food delivery giant Meituan will take on the Hong Kong market with an entirely new brand catering to local preferences, Hong Kong newspaper Sing Tao Daily reported on Thursday. Meituan begins its foray into Hong Kong’s local services market as the Beijing-based company faces new pressure from Douyin, ByteDance’s TikTok sibling app, which has joined the sector in mainland China. Meituan’s new brand is expected to launch in the second half of this year, with the company promoting the service to local couriers since Tuesday. During a series of information sessions, the firm introduced its latest delivery app, service fee model, and incentive program, and it will follow up by holding a number of briefings from April 4 to 19, according to the report.
