Amazon China will no longer provide app store services starting from July 17, according to a statement posted on the company’s official WeChat account today. The firm noted that the discontinuation will have “no impact” on Chinese customers shopping on Amazon, and that its other business lines in the country would continue. Initially released in March 2011, Amazon Appstore is for Android-compatible platforms and is available in nearly 200 countries. The move to shutter its offerings in China comes as the e-commerce giant plans to stop selling Kindle e-books in the country from June, and is set to remove the Kindle app from Chinese app stores in 2024.
