Huawei spin-off Honor saw sales of its phones increase rapidly overseas in the first quarter of 2023, bucking the trend in a global market that saw overall phone shipments decline, according to market analysis platform Counterpoint Research. Honor’s overseas shipments increased by four-fold in the first quarter of 2023 compared with the same period of last year. Its overseas growth was evident in three regions: Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America, where shipments grew more than five-, six-, and eight-fold, respectively. On May 29, at the launch event for the new Honor 90 series, CEO Zhao Ming claimed that Honor’s overseas shipments will exceed its total for the whole of 2022 by the end of May or early June. However, in the first quarter of 2023, Honor’s shipments in the Chinese market amounted to 9.7 million units, representing a 35% of decrease year-on-year, according to market analysis firm Canalys.
