Tencent has announced that a Chinese version of shooter game Valorant is set to be released in China on July 12. Valorant, a first-person fighting game developed by Riot Games, secured its China license in December 2022, two years after the release of the global version. Huang Lingdong, vice president of Tencent Games, said the company will invest over RMB 1 billion ($13.8 million) in the game over the next three years to develop its ecosystem in China. Chinese players have been able to join the competitive mode for final beta tests since June 15. Globally, Valorant hit an estimated total of over 19 million active players in June 2023, according to game stats agency Tracker Network. [IThome, in Chinese]
