Tesla has begun promoting a new user referral program to Chinese customers, including a deduction of RMB 3,500 ($484) on new Model 3 and Model Y cars, if buyers are referred by an existing Tesla owner, according to its Chinese website. New Model X and Model S users will continue to receive RMB 7,000 off their car’s purchase price, a policy instigated on June 3. All new Tesla owners are being granted three months’ free access to Tesla’s enhanced autopilot software. Previously, referrers could earn credits towards free supercharging miles and items from Tesla’s online shop. Xpeng Motors is the latest rival to launch a new vehicle: its G6 crossover starts at RMB 209,900, 20% less than the price of a Tesla Model Y in China. [TechNode reporting]
